Official VAQ-140 Patriots Christmas Patches — 'Tis the Season for Electronic Attack
Christmas in the ready room hits different when you're deployed. The Patriots celebrate wherever the mission takes them.
Electronic Attack Squadron 140 (VAQ-140) — the 'Patriots' — is an EA-18G Growler squadron based at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, with the callsign 'Talon.' Established on October 1, 1985, the Patriots were immediately tasked with testing the AGM-88 HARM for the Prowler and became the first Prowler squadron to operationally deploy with the HARM. Since then, the Patriots have deployed aboard USS John F. Kennedy, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS George Washington, USS Harry S. Truman, and USS George H.W. Bush, flying combat over the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria. During Operation Allied Force in 1999, the Patriots assumed command of Electronic Attack Wing Aviano, flying over 740 combat missions and firing 117 HARMs. The squadron has maintained a remarkable safety record and earned the Battle E, Safety S, Golden Wrench, and Radford Award. These Christmas patches represent the squadron culture that keeps morale high through long deployments and holiday seasons spent away from home — the ready room traditions, the morale patches, and the humor that bonds a squadron together when Christmas dinner is served on the mess decks instead of at home.
Perfect For: VAQ-140 Patriots aircrew and maintainers, holiday deployment veterans, CVW-7 personnel, NAS Whidbey Island electronic attack community members, and anyone who has spent Christmas on deployment.
