Training Squadron 86 (VT-86), the "Sabrehawks," is a United States Navy advanced jet training squadron operating under the Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA). Based at NAS Pensacola, Florida, VT-86 is responsible for producing the next generation of Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers, training them in the T-45C Goshawk — the Navy's advanced jet trainer that prepares students for the rigors of tactical jet aviation.
The Sabrehawks guide student aviators through the critical advanced phase of flight training, where they master carrier qualification, formation flying, instrument navigation, and air combat maneuvering. Graduates of VT-86's demanding syllabus go on to fly the Navy and Marine Corps' frontline tactical aircraft, including the F/A-18 Hornet, F-35C Lightning II, and EA-18G Growler. The squadron's cadre of instructor pilots represents some of the finest aviators in Naval Aviation, dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of flight training excellence.
