Official VAQ-138 Yellow Jackets EA-18G Leather Patches — Nearly Five Decades of Electronic Attack, Worn on the Flight Jacket
The Yellow Jackets' callsign is Rampage. Their leather patch carries that legacy from the ready room to the flight line.
Electronic Attack Squadron 138 (VAQ-138) — the 'Yellow Jackets' — is an expeditionary EA-18G Growler squadron based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Commissioned in February 1976, the Yellow Jackets deployed aboard USS Saratoga, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS John F. Kennedy, USS Ranger, and made eight deployments aboard USS Nimitz — flying combat over Libya in 1986, the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, Kosovo during Operation Allied Force where they fired over 60 AGM-88 HARMs, and supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom aboard USS John C. Stennis and USS Carl Vinson. After transitioning from the EA-6B Prowler to the EA-18G Growler in 2009-2010, the Yellow Jackets became an expeditionary electronic attack force, deploying to Misawa, Japan, Clark Air Base in the Philippines, and Andersen AFB in Guam. In 2020, VAQ-138 became the first squadron to execute a HARM shoot from their home base at Whidbey Island. These EA-18G leather patches are designed for the G-1 flight jacket — the most personal piece of gear a naval aviator wears — and carry the Yellow Jackets' heritage from the Prowler era through the Growler age.
Perfect For: VAQ-138 Yellow Jackets aircrew and maintainers, EA-18G Growler pilots and EWOs, NAS Whidbey Island personnel, and anyone who flies under the callsign Rampage.
