Electronic Attack Squadron 139 (VAQ-139), the Cougars, operates the EA-18G Growler from NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. VAQ-139 provides electronic attack, suppression of enemy air defenses, and electronic surveillance capabilities as part of the carrier air wing. The Cougars deploy aboard aircraft carriers, jamming enemy radar systems, intercepting communications, and providing the electromagnetic dominance that enables the rest of the air wing to operate in contested airspace. VAQ-139's Growler crews are among the most technically sophisticated aviators in the Navy, mastering both conventional weapons employment and the invisible art of electronic warfare.
