Officially Licensed Marine Aviation Support Squadron MASS-6 Lighthouse Patch - Marine Air Support Squadron 6 (MASS-6), Direct Air Support Center, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing Reserve Command, officially licensed embroidered patch.
Lighthouse wing, DASC mission, New England reserve pride — the unit that guides aircraft to the fight and keeps ground forces connected to the sky.
Marine Air Support Squadron 6 is a reserve United States Marine Corps aviation command and control unit that provides the Direct Air Support Center for Marine Forces Reserve, headquartered at Westover Air Reserve Base in Massachusetts with Detachment Alpha at MCAS Miramar, California. The squadron traces its lineage to 1947 and received its current MASS-6 designation on 1 April 1967. Its mission is to process immediate air support requests, coordinate aircraft employment with other supporting arms, manage terminal control assets for ground combat forces, and control manned and unmanned aircraft transiting its area of responsibility. Elements of MASS-6 supported Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991, augmented the DASC for I Marine Expeditionary Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and earned commendations for NATO exercises including Battle Griffin in Norway. The squadron also pioneered the Air Support Liaison Party protocol, now a standard across all Marine Air Support units. In 2011, MASS-6 Marines were awarded the Naval Aviation Observer Wings in recognition of their air support control operations. The Lighthouse patch imagery connects the squadron's New England home and its role as a guiding beacon between ground forces and Marine aviation assets.
Perfect For: MASS-6 veterans and reservists, Marine Air Control Group 48 alumni, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing collectors, DASC operators, forward air controllers, Marine Forces Reserve supporters, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom commemorators, shadow box builders, patch panel displays, reunion gifts, and anyone honoring the command-and-control Marines who bridge the gap between boots on the ground and aircraft overhead.
