The QAR Scrappers of VMFA-533 are the quality assurance gatekeepers who ensure that every F-35B Lightning II maintenance action meets the exacting standards required for fifth-generation stealth fighter operations. This patch represents the Marines who won't sign off until it's perfect.
VMFA-533, the Hawks, operates the F-35B Lightning II from MCAS Beaufort under Marine Aircraft Group 31 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Quality Assurance Representatives (QARs) — known as the Scrappers — are responsible for inspecting and verifying every maintenance action performed on the squadron's stealth fighters. Given the complexity and sensitivity of the F-35B's low-observable coatings, advanced avionics, and integrated sensor systems, QA at VMFA-533 operates at the highest level of technical scrutiny.
