MALS-39 Magicians OV-10 — USMC Embroidered Patch
The Magicians — OV-10 Bronco Heritage
This MALS-39 Magicians patch pays tribute to the era when the squadron supported the legendary OV-10 Bronco — the rugged observation and light attack aircraft that provided forward air control across Vietnam and beyond. The Magicians made the impossible look easy, and this OV-10 heritage patch captures that magic.
Provisional H&MS-39 was first activated at Quang Tri Airfield, Vietnam in April 1968, supporting MAG-39's tactical squadrons at some of the war's most dangerous locations including Dong Ha and Khe Sanh. Reactivated at Camp Pendleton in 1978, the squadron supported UH-1 Hueys, AH-1 Cobras, and the beloved OV-10 Bronco. Redesignated MALS-39 — the "Magicians" — in 1988, the unit has deployed for Desert Storm, Somalia, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and continuous WestPac rotations. This OV-10 variant patch celebrates the Bronco era, when MALS-39 maintainers kept one of aviation's most versatile combat aircraft in the fight.
