Black Widows of Yuma

The Black Widows of MALS-13 are the lethal logistics force behind MAG-13's strike capability. At MCAS Yuma, they maintain some of the Marine Corps' most advanced aircraft, ensuring that the F-35B Lightning II squadrons are always ready to deploy and deliver precision air power. This officially licensed patch carries that deadly efficient reputation.

Commissioned as Headquarters and Service Squadron 13 on 1 March 1942 in San Diego, the unit saw action across the Pacific in World War II, deployed to Chu Lai in Vietnam where it flew forward air control missions in Cougars and Skyhawks, and supported Desert Storm operations. Redesignated MALS-13 in 1988, the Black Widows deployed aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard for Operation Iraqi Freedom and provided support during the Camp Bastion attack in Afghanistan in 2012. Now at MCAS Yuma under the 3rd MAW, the squadron provides maintenance, ordnance, avionics, and supply support to MAG-13's F-35B Lightning II and unmanned aerial vehicle squadrons.
