Marine Aircraft Group MAG-41 — USMC Embroidered Patch
Cowboys of Marine Aviation
From the carrier decks of World War II to the flight lines of NAS JRB Fort Worth, MAG-41 has written one of the most unique chapters in Marine aviation history. As a reserve group that has consistently punched above its weight, MAG-41 embodies the fighting spirit of Marine aviation's citizen warriors.
Originally organized as Marine Base Defense Group 41 on 1 January 1943 at MCAS El Toro, the unit was redesignated Marine Aircraft Group 41 on 10 November 1944 with the mission of training squadrons for Pacific combat. MAG-41 was the first Marine aviation unit to receive and train with the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, and by war's end had trained nearly twenty squadrons for combat, including the largest squadron in Marine aviation history. Reactivated on 1 July 1962 as part of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, MAG-41 earned the distinction of operating the last Phantom II squadron in the Corps before transitioning to the F/A-18 Hornet in 1992 with a legendary "Phinal Phantom Pharewell" celebration. The group's units have deployed for Afghanistan and Iraq operations.
Perfect For:
MAG-41 veterans and Reserve Marines, F/A-18 and KC-130 community members, 4th MAW personnel, NAS JRB Fort Worth community, and Phantom II heritage collectors.
