Marine Air Group MAG-14 — USMC Embroidered Patch
Cactus Air Force Heritage
The story of MAG-14 is the story of Marine aviation at its most desperate and most heroic. From the blood-soaked airstrips of Guadalcanal to the flight lines of Cherry Point, this group has carried the fight across eight decades. This officially licensed patch represents service at its finest.
Formed on 1 March 1942 at Camp Kearny, California, MAG-14 drew its nucleus from MAG-11 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. By October 1942, the group arrived at Guadalcanal, relieving MAG-23 to become part of the legendary Cactus Air Force. Just ten days later they fought in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, followed by the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. MAG-14 went on to support operations across the Solomon Islands including the Battles of New Georgia and Bougainville. During Desert Storm, MAG-14 flew night combat missions deep into Iraq and Kuwait. Now based at MCAS Cherry Point with F-35B, AV-8B Harrier, KC-130, and UAV squadrons, the group continues its mission under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
Perfect For:
MAG-14 veterans and families, 2nd MAW aircrew, MCAS Cherry Point community members, Guadalcanal campaign historians, and military aviation collectors.
