Marine Aircraft Group MAG-13 — USMC Embroidered Patch
Strike First, Strike Hard
From the black volcanic sands of American Samoa to the scorching deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, MAG-13 has delivered Marine air power wherever it was needed most. If you wore this patch, you know what it means to bring the fight from austere airstrips, carrier decks, and expeditionary airfields. This officially licensed patch honors that tradition.
Commissioned on 1 March 1942 in San Diego, MAG-13's forward echelon was en route to Samoa within a week, assuming responsibility for the air defense of American Samoa during the darkest days of the Pacific war. The group earned distinction as the only composite Marine Aircraft Group, supporting the 1st Marine Brigade with fighter, attack, and helicopter squadrons. Deploying to Chu Lai in 1966, MAG-13 flew over 87,000 sorties in four years of combat in Vietnam. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the group's Harriers flew over 2,000 sorties from the USS Bonhomme Richard and Al Jaber Air Base, expending over 750,000 pounds of ordnance. Now based at MCAS Yuma with F-35B Lightning II squadrons, MAG-13 leads Marine aviation into the future.
Perfect For:
MAG-13 veterans and active duty Marines, AV-8B Harrier and F-35B Lightning II community members, MCAS Yuma personnel, and Marine aviation patch enthusiasts.
