Marine Aircraft Group MAG-12 — USMC Embroidered Patch
Forward Deployed, Combat Proven
If you've ever served at MCAS Iwakuni, you know the weight of wearing MAG-12 on your sleeve. From the jungles of Guadalcanal to the forward edge of the Indo-Pacific, this group has been America's first responder in the Western Pacific for generations. This officially licensed patch carries that legacy with pride.
Activated on 1 March 1942 at Camp Kearny, California, MAG-12 deployed immediately to the Pacific Theater. Admiral "Bull" Halsey himself requested the group be brought to the Philippines, and within 24 hours of arrival they justified his recommendation — earning both the Army Distinguished Unit Award and the Navy Unit Citation. After nearly six years in Korea, MAG-12 moved to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, and in 1965 deployed to Chu Lai, Vietnam, supporting the recapture of Hue City and the relief of besieged Khe Sanh. The group earned two more Navy Unit Citations for its Vietnam service before returning to Iwakuni, where it remains today as the tactical air arm of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.
Perfect For:
MAG-12 veterans and active duty Marines, 1st MAW aircrew, MCAS Iwakuni community members, WestPac deployment veterans, and collectors of USMC aviation patches.
First to Fight in the Pacific.
