Wearing the MAG-11 insignia means carrying the weight of every Marine aviator who came before you. From the earliest days of Marine aviation to the modern era of precision strike warfare, this group has been at the center of it all. This officially licensed patch brings that legacy home.
Activated in 1941, MAG-11 traces its roots to 1921 and has seen continuous action across the most significant conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The group deployed to Da Nang in April 1965 and flew close air support, air defense intercept, reconnaissance, and electronic countermeasures missions throughout Vietnam. In 1982, MAG-11's fighter squadrons transitioned from the F-4 Phantom II to the F/A-18 Hornet, and in 1986, two of its squadrons participated in the air strikes against Libya from the USS Coral Sea. Based at MCAS Miramar, MAG-11 remains the backbone of 3rd MAW fixed-wing strike capability.
