MACS-24 provided the reserve air surveillance and intercept control capability for the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, ensuring that the Marine Corps could rapidly expand its air control capacity when activated for combat operations.
Marine Air Control Squadron 24 served within the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, providing reserve tactical radar and air control capability. When activated, MACS-24 Marines integrated with active component air control squadrons, operating tactical radar systems and the Tactical Air Operations Center to provide air surveillance, identification, and intercept control. The squadron's reserve radar operators and air controllers maintained proficiency in the demanding skills required to track aircraft and direct the air battle.
