Marine Air Control Squadron MACS-23 — USMC Embroidered Patch
East Coast Air Surveillance
MACS-23 provided the radar-based air surveillance and intercept control that gave the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's commanders a clear picture of the air battlespace. This officially licensed patch represents the air control Marines who operated on the East Coast.
Marine Air Control Squadron 23 operated tactical radar systems as part of Marine Air Control Group 28 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's air command and control system. The squadron provided air surveillance, identification, intercept control, and airspace management, operating the Tactical Air Operations Center that coordinated the air defense of the MAGTF. MACS-23 Marines ensured that every aircraft in the battlespace was identified, tracked, and either cleared or engaged.
