Custom III MEF "Island of Misfit Toys" morale patch.
Forward deployed, forgotten back home, ready to fight tonight — Okinawa Marines.
III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) is the United States Marine Corps' forward-deployed Marine Air-Ground Task Force in the Indo-Pacific theater, headquartered at Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan with approximately 27,000 personnel. III MEF answers to U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and Marine Forces Pacific, and its major subordinate commands are 3rd Marine Division, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, the 31st MEU (the Pacific's only forward-deployed Marine Expeditionary Unit), and III MEF Information Group. The lineage runs deep: III MEF was originally established as I Marine Amphibious Corps on October 1, 1942, redesignated III Amphibious Corps on April 15, 1944, and led the Marine landings in the Solomon Islands campaign, the Mariana and Palau Islands campaign, and the Battle of Okinawa. After redeploying to Tientsin, China in September 1945 to support the occupation of Northern China, the corps was deactivated June 10, 1946 — then reactivated May 6, 1965 in Da Nang, Vietnam as III Amphibious Corps, redesignated III Marine Amphibious Force the next day, and re-flagged as III Marine Expeditionary Force on February 5, 1988. "Island of Misfit Toys" is the Okinawa Marine's morale jab — every component, every job, every Marine pulled together on a Pacific island and made into the hardest fight-tonight force in the Corps. This patch is theirs.
Perfect For: III MEF Marines and Sailors, 3rd Marine Division, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, 3rd MEB, 31st MEU, and III MIG personnel, Camp Courtney / Camp Foster / Camp Schwab / Camp Hansen / MCAS Futenma / MCAS Iwakuni alumni, and Okinawa-tour veterans.
III MEF — the Island of Misfit Toys, fight-tonight ready.
