H&MS-31 — USMC Embroidered Patch
Stingers — Beaufort's Maintenance Force
H&MS-31 has been keeping MAG-31's fighter attack aircraft combat-ready since World War II, from the F4U Corsairs over Okinawa to the F/A-18 Hornets and F-35 Lightning IIs of today. This officially licensed patch represents the maintenance Marines who ensure Beaufort's fighter squadrons are always ready to fight.
First activated as Headquarters Squadron 31 on 1 February 1943 at MCAS Cherry Point, the squadron deployed to the Pacific and supported MAG-31 during the Battle of Okinawa. Ground personnel went ashore on 3 April 1945 to prepare for MAG-31's arrival, which launched operations just four days later. After deactivation and reactivation cycles, the squadron found its permanent home at MCAS Beaufort. Redesignated as MALS-31 — the "Stingers" — in October 1988, the unit successfully transformed its support mission from F-4 Phantom IIs to F/A-18 Hornets and continues to evolve with the transition to the F-35 Lightning II.
Perfect For:
H&MS-31 and MALS-31 veterans, MAG-31 Marines, MCAS Beaufort community, fighter maintenance personnel, and Marine aviation logistics collectors.
