Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 27 served within the Marine Aircraft Wing support structure, providing critical ground support functions including engineer support, bulk fuels, landing zone support, motor transport, supply, and base security. The squadron's Marines were responsible for creating and maintaining the austere operating environments from which Marine aviation projects power. Whether establishing a forward expeditionary airfield or sustaining operations at a major air station, H&MS-27 Marines were the foundation that made Marine air operations possible.
