2nd Marine Aircraft Wing — the Marine Corps' east coast air power since 1941.

The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing is the major east coast aviation unit of the United States Marine Corps, headquartered at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. Commissioned on July 10, 1941, 2nd MAW provides the aviation combat element for II Marine Expeditionary Force. The wing's squadrons have fought in every major conflict since World War II — from 83 combat operations across the South Pacific and the Battle of Okinawa to Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. During the 2003 invasion of Iraq alone, 2nd MAW units flew over 7,800 combat sorties and expended nearly 4 million pounds of ordnance. Today the wing operates F-35 Lightning IIs, MV-22 Ospreys, and the full spectrum of Marine aviation platforms.
