Strike Fighter Squadron 115 (VFA-115), the "Eagles," is a U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet strike fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, deployed with Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73). VFA-115 was originally established as Attack Squadron 115 (VA-115) on October 1, 1946 at NAS Alameda, California, flying the SB2C Helldiver, AD Skyraider, and A-6 Intruder over the decades, was redesignated VFA-115 on October 1, 1996 with the F/A-18C Hornet transition, became the U.S. Navy's first operational F/A-18E Super Hornet squadron in September 2002, and conducted the Super Hornet's first combat deployment aboard USS Abraham Lincoln in 2003 — including launching some of the first Super Hornet combat sorties of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
