Official Squadron Watch Caps - VP-46 Grey Knights Patrol Squadron 46 officially licensed knit watch cap, representing the oldest maritime patrol squadron in the United States Navy.
The Oldest and the Best, flying the P-8A Poseidon from NAS Whidbey Island and patrolling the world's oceans since 1931.
Patrol Squadron 46 traces its lineage to July 1, 1931, when it was established as VP-5S at NAS Coco Solo in the Panama Canal Zone, making it the oldest maritime patrol squadron and the second oldest aircraft squadron in the entire U.S. Navy. Based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, and assigned to Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing Ten, VP-46 has flown every major patrol aircraft in Navy history, from the PBY Catalina and P-2V Neptune to the P-3 Orion and today's P-8A Poseidon. The Grey Knights have participated in every major U.S. military conflict since the squadron's founding, including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. On recent deployments to the Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of operations, Grey Knight aircrews covered over 4,000 miles of ocean, logging more than 3,600 flight hours and supporting exercises including BALTOPS, Joint Warrior, and Northern Viking. That depth of operational history gives the Grey Knights name a weight that goes well beyond a callsign, and this watch cap carries it with every wear.
Perfect for VP-46 veterans, active-duty Grey Knights, P-8A Poseidon aircrew and maintainers, NAS Whidbey Island alumni, Navy maritime patrol collectors, deployment homecoming gifts, reunion keepsakes, shadow box displays, and family members who want a durable, everyday piece of squadron pride. It also suits Navy historians and patch-and-gear collectors building a serious maritime patrol and reconnaissance collection around one of the most decorated and long-serving squadrons in U.S. naval aviation history.
Grey Knights heritage, worn on the head and carried in the memory of every patrol flown.
