Officially Licensed US Navy USS Yorktown CVS-10 Patch — The Fighting Lady in Embroidered Glory
From Truk to Tokyo Bay to Apollo 8 — The Fighting Lady did it all and lived to become a museum.
USS Yorktown (CV-10/CVS-10), "The Fighting Lady," was an Essex-class aircraft carrier that compiled one of the most distinguished combat records of any warship in history. Commissioned in 1943, Yorktown fought through the Pacific Theater from the Marshall Islands to Okinawa, earning the Presidential Unit Citation and eleven battle stars. After World War II, she was modernized and reclassified as an anti-submarine warfare carrier, serving through the Vietnam era. Yorktown recovered the Apollo 8 astronauts upon their return from the first manned mission to orbit the Moon. Today she rests at Patriots Point, South Carolina, as a museum ship.
Perfect For: USS Yorktown veterans, WWII Pacific Theater historians, Apollo space recovery enthusiasts, Patriots Point visitors, and Essex-class carrier patch collectors.
