USS Ohio SSGN-726 Patch — United States Navy Guided Missile Submarine USS Ohio (SSGN-726) Embroidered Patch
USS Ohio SSGN-726 — from ballistic deterrence to guided missile strike.
USS Ohio (SSGN-726) is the lead ship of the Ohio class and one of four Ohio-class submarines converted from ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) to guided missile submarines (SSGNs). This conversion transformed Ohio from a nuclear deterrent platform carrying Trident ballistic missiles into a conventional strike and special operations platform capable of launching up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles.
USS Ohio's conversion from SSBN to SSGN was one of the most creative repurposing programs in naval history. The submarine's 24 Trident missile tubes were modified to carry seven Tomahawk cruise missiles each, giving Ohio more conventional strike firepower than any other single platform in the fleet. Additionally, two tubes were converted into lockout chambers for Navy SEAL teams, giving Ohio the ability to covertly insert special operations forces anywhere in the world. The SSGN Ohio combines massive conventional strike capability with special operations support in a stealthy, nuclear-powered platform that can deploy for months without surfacing. Ohio and her three sister SSGNs represent some of the most versatile and lethal warships ever to put to sea.
This patch honors USS Ohio's guided missile mission.
Perfect For: USS Ohio SSGN-726 crew members, submarine warfare professionals, Tomahawk cruise missile enthusiasts, and SSGN conversion history collectors.
