USS Iwo Jima operates a mix of MV-22B Ospreys, CH-53E Super Stallions, AH-1Z Vipers, UH-1Y Venoms, and AV-8B Harriers or F-35B Lightning IIs from her flight deck, providing the embarked Marines with the aviation support they need for ship-to-shore assault, close air support, and sustained operations ashore. The ship's name serves as a constant reminder of the sacrifice and valor that define the Marine Corps, and every sailor and Marine aboard carries that legacy with them on every deployment.
