USS Henry L Stimson SSBN-655 Patch — United States Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine USS Henry L. Stimson (SSBN-655) Embroidered Patch

USS Henry L. Stimson SSBN-655 — silent deterrence beneath the waves.

USS Henry L. Stimson (SSBN-655) was a Benjamin Franklin-class fleet ballistic missile submarine that served as part of America's nuclear triad during the Cold War. Named after Henry L. Stimson, who served as Secretary of War and Secretary of State across multiple administrations, the submarine carried Poseidon and later Trident I submarine-launched ballistic missiles on deterrent patrols that helped prevent nuclear war.

SSBN-655 spent her career conducting strategic deterrent patrols — deploying for months at a time beneath the ocean's surface, undetected, ready to launch her nuclear missiles in response to a Soviet first strike. The "boomers" of the SSBN fleet were the ultimate insurance policy of the Cold War — even if the Soviet Union destroyed every land-based missile silo and strategic bomber base in America, the SSBNs lurking beneath the oceans would survive to deliver a devastating retaliatory strike. USS Stimson's Blue and Gold crews rotated through patrol cycles that kept the submarine at sea almost continuously, maintaining the nuclear deterrence posture that kept the peace throughout the Cold War.

This patch honors SSBN-655's deterrent service.

Perfect For: USS Henry L. Stimson SSBN-655 veterans, Cold War submarine service members, ballistic missile submarine historians, and nuclear deterrence patch collectors.

Silent deterrence — SSBN-655.
