This Pop-A-Smoke patch honors Marine helicopter aircrew who served during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-1991. Marine rotary-wing units played a critical role in the liberation of Kuwait, conducting assault transport, close air support, armed reconnaissance, and logistics missions across the desert. CH-46 Sea Knights, CH-53 Sea Stallions, UH-1 Hueys, and AH-1 Cobras all contributed to the rapid ground campaign that ejected Iraqi forces from Kuwait in just 100 hours of ground combat.
