The United States Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is the Marine Corps' premier felony-level investigative organization, responsible for investigating serious criminal offenses committed by or against Marines and within Marine Corps jurisdiction. CID special agents are trained law enforcement professionals who handle the most complex and sensitive criminal cases in the Corps, including homicide, sexual assault, fraud, drug trafficking, and other major felonies that require professional investigative expertise beyond the capabilities of military police.

They operate with a level of independence and investigative authority that sets them apart from regular military police, often working in plainclothes and carrying credentials that give them access to crime scenes and suspects across Marine Corps installations worldwide.
