WWI Maj Lanoe Hawker French Ace PVC Patch — Britain's First Air VC
Major Lanoe Hawker was the first British fighter ace to receive the Victoria Cross for aerial combat.
This PVC patch commemorates Major Lanoe George Hawker VC, DSO, one of the British Empire's earliest and most celebrated fighter aces of World War I. Hawker was the first pilot to receive the Victoria Cross for aerial combat, awarded for attacking three enemy aircraft in a single sortie on July 25, 1915. He was later killed in a legendary duel with Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) on November 23, 1916. Hawker's courage and skill established the standard for British fighter pilots in the Great War.
