Werner Voss was one of WWI's greatest fighter aces — killed at 20 in one of history's most famous aerial battles.
This PVC patch commemorates Werner Voss, one of Germany's top fighter aces of World War I with 48 aerial victories. Voss was killed on September 23, 1917, at just 20 years old, in a legendary dogfight against seven British SE.5a fighters of No. 56 Squadron RFC, including James McCudden. Despite being outnumbered seven to one, Voss fought brilliantly for over ten minutes, hitting every British aircraft before being shot down by Arthur Rhys-Davids. Even his opponents praised his skill, calling it the greatest aerial combat they had ever witnessed.
