This PVC patch commemorates Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (VMM-164), the Knight Riders, in their REIN (Reinforced) configuration during Operation Octave Quartz. Operation Octave Quartz was a named military operation that required the Knight Riders' MV-22B Ospreys and composite aviation combat element. VMM-164 REIN brought the full package of tiltrotor, attack, utility, and heavy-lift capability to the operation, demonstrating the MEU ACE's ability to project Marine aviation power in support of combatant commander requirements.
