Official USS Carl Vinson 2021-22 Cruise Patch — History Aboard CVN-70
The first F-35C. The first CMV-22B. The first carrier air wing of the future. Carl Vinson made history.
USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) departed San Diego on August 2, 2021, carrying Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2) into the Indo-Pacific for what would become one of the most significant carrier deployments in modern naval aviation history. Aboard were the F-35C Lightning IIs of VFA-147 "Argonauts" — the first operational deployment of the Navy's fifth-generation stealth fighter at sea — alongside the CMV-22B Ospreys of VRM-30 "Titans," replacing the C-2A Greyhound for carrier onboard delivery. The air wing also included Super Hornets, Growlers from VAQ-136, E-2D Hawkeyes from VAW-113, and MH-60R/S helicopters from HSM-78 and HSC-4. This cruise patch, created by VFA-147, commemorates the deployment that proved the "air wing of the future" concept, integrating 5th-generation capabilities into carrier operations at an unprecedented scale.
Perfect For: USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) sailors, CVW-2 aircrew and maintainers, VFA-147 Argonauts, VRM-30 Titans, F-35C Lightning II community, 2021-22 deployment veterans, and anyone who was part of naval aviation history aboard the Gold Eagle.
