UH-1 Huey War Pig Patch

UH-1 Huey "War Pig" – USMC Morale Patch

The Bell UH-1 "Huey" is arguably the most iconic helicopter in military history, and no aircraft is more closely associated with the United States Marine Corps' light attack helicopter mission than the legendary Huey family. From its origins as the HU-1 Iroquois in 1959 through the single-engine UH-1E that saw extensive combat in Vietnam, the twin-engine UH-1N that served for over four decades, and the modern UH-1Y Venom that equips today's Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadrons, the Huey has been the Marines' trusted companion on every battlefield for more than six decades. The "War Pig" designation captures the aggressive, no-nonsense spirit of the Huey in its combat role—a helicopter that was never pretty but was always deadly.

In Marine Corps service, the Huey has served as a gunship, troop transport, medevac platform, command and control aircraft, and close air support provider. During the Vietnam War, Marine UH-1Es flew countless missions inserting reconnaissance teams, evacuating wounded, and providing suppressive fire in the dense jungles of I Corps. The twin-engine UH-1N expanded the Huey's capability with improved power and over-water safety, serving in Grenada, Desert Storm, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and Afghanistan before its retirement in August 2014. Today, the UH-1Y Venom carries forward the Huey legacy with a glass cockpit, four-blade composite rotor, twice the payload, and 50% greater range than its predecessor. Paired with the AH-1Z Viper in HMLA squadrons, the UH-1Y continues to provide Marine ground forces with the utility and firepower that have defined the Huey mission for generations. The "War Pig" morale patch celebrates the raw, utilitarian beauty of the Huey—a helicopter that does the dirty work so Marines on the ground can accomplish their mission.

Perfect For: Marine Huey pilots and crew chiefs from any era, HMLA squadron veterans, UH-1Y Venom and UH-1N Twin Huey community members, Vietnam-era helicopter combat veterans, and military aviation morale patch collectors.

This patch is a tribute to the Huey's combat spirit—the War Pig that has carried Marines into battle and brought them home for more than sixty years.
