The Dustoff mission dates back to the Korean War and was immortalized in Vietnam, where Dustoff crews routinely flew into hot landing zones under fire to extract casualties. The Nomad callsign represents a specific Dustoff unit or detachment, carrying on that proud tradition of aerial medical evacuation. These are the pilots, crew chiefs, and flight medics who operate under the Geneva Convention, often unarmed, flying marked aircraft into combat zones because someone on the ground needs them. This patch honors that selfless commitment — the unwritten rule that Dustoff never says no.
