The Basic School (TBS) Class 9-68 reunion patch commemorates the enduring bond between the Marine officers who graduated from The Basic School at Quantico, Virginia, in the class designated 9-68 (September 1968). TBS is where every newly commissioned Marine officer — regardless of their eventual military occupational specialty — learns the fundamentals of being a Marine officer: infantry tactics, leadership, weapons employment, and the warrior ethos that defines Marine Corps officership.
Class 9-68 graduated during one of the most intense periods of the Vietnam War, and many of these young lieutenants went directly from the hills of Quantico to the jungles and rice paddies of Southeast Asia.
