Awarded upon completion of the grueling seven-week WTI course at MCAS Yuma, Arizona — run by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) — the WTI patch identifies its wearer as the squadron's subject matter expert in weapons employment, tactical planning, and integrated combat operations. Every Marine aviation squadron has WTIs who serve as the tactical backbone, developing training plans, running exercises, and ensuring their unit is ready to fight. This PVC shoulder patch is the mark of a Marine who has been tested at the highest level of tactical proficiency and earned the right to teach others how to win.
