Officially Licensed USMC VMFA(AW)-225 Vikings Leather Patches — From Corsairs Over the Solomons to F-35Bs at Yuma, the Vikings Have Never Stopped Fighting

The Vikings were the first Marine fighter squadron into Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They've been leading the charge since 1943.

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225 (VMFA-225) — the 'Vikings' — is one of the Marine Corps' most distinguished fighter attack squadrons, with a combat lineage stretching from World War II Corsairs to fifth-generation F-35B Lightning IIs. VMF-225 was commissioned on January 1, 1943, at MCAS Mojave, California, and flew F4U Corsairs in combat operations across the New Hebrides Islands from August 1944 to January 1945. After the war, the squadron made five Mediterranean cruises with the Sixth Fleet before redesignation as VMA-225 in 1952, transitioned from Corsairs to Skyraiders to Skyhawks, and became the first Marine squadron to deploy and conduct night operations aboard USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. In 1966, the Vikings received the A-6A Intruder and deployed to Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam, in January 1969, where they provided all-weather close air support and interdicted trucks on the Ho Chi Minh Trail using the Intruder's unique search radar. Reactivated in 1991 with the F/A-18D Night Attack Hornet, VMFA(AW)-225 was the first Marine Corps fighter squadron deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, deploying to Ahmed Al Jabar Air Base in Kuwait in January 2003 and participating in Operation Southern Watch before the invasion. The Vikings also deployed in support of OIF in 2007-2008 at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The squadron conducted its final Hornet flight on January 23, 2020, and officially transitioned to the F-35B Lightning II on January 29, 2021. Now based at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, under MAG-13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, the Vikings carry their legacy into the stealth era. This leather patch represents one of the most well-traveled and combat-tested squadrons in Marine aviation.

Perfect For: VMFA-225 Vikings Marines past and present, F-35B Lightning II and F/A-18D Hornet pilots, A-6 Intruder veterans, MAG-13 and 3rd MAW personnel, MCAS Yuma and Miramar Marines, and anyone who has deployed with the Vikings.
