The Hawks specialized in night and all-weather deep air support, armed reconnaissance, and close air support missions — flying the two-seat Hornet that gave them the weapons systems officer advantage in degraded conditions. The squadron's lineage traces back to World War II, and the Hawks deployed to combat zones from Desert Storm through OIF, providing precision strike capability that ground Marines depended on when the ceiling dropped and the weather turned ugly.
