Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-115 Silver Eagles 1980's Squadron Patches — Cold War Phantoms to Beaufort Hornets
The 80s called — they want their Silver Eagles patch back. Tell them no.
VMFA-115 "Silver Eagles" was one of the most decorated fighter attack squadrons in Marine Corps history. Originally commissioned as VMF-115 in July 1943, the squadron flew F4U Corsairs in the Pacific during WWII, F9F Panthers in Korea, and F-4 Phantoms through more than two decades of Cold War and Vietnam combat. After flying Phantoms for over 20 years, VMFA-115 transitioned to the F/A-18A Hornet in January 1985 — and the following year officially adopted the "Silver Eagles" name. This 1980's-era patch captures the squadron at that pivotal transition point. Based at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina under MAG-31, the Silver Eagles went on to earn the Hanson Award as Marine Corps Fighter Squadron of the Year three times in four years. The squadron was deactivated in 2023 after 80 years of service and is slated for reactivation as an F-35C unit.
Perfect For: VMFA-115 Silver Eagles Marines and veterans, F-4 Phantom and F/A-18 Hornet community, MCAS Beaufort squadrons, 2nd MAW veterans, 1980's-era military patch collectors, and anyone who remembers the Hornet transition era.
