Officially Licensed USMC VMF-314 Bob's Cats Squadron Patches — The Original Black Knights
Before they were Black Knights, they were Bob's Cats — and they flew Corsairs into the Pacific.
VMF-314 was commissioned on October 1, 1943, at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, and originally given the nickname "Bob's Cats." Flying the legendary F4U Corsair under Marine Aircraft Group 32, the squadron trained for combat in the South Pacific and deployed to the Pacific theater in 1944, operating from MCAS Ewa and Midway Atoll before moving to Ie Shima in May 1945 to fight in the Battle of Okinawa as part of MAG-22. The squadron's insignia was designed by Walt Disney Studios — a hallmark of WWII-era squadron art. VMF-314 was later recommissioned in 1952, transitioned through the F9F Panther, F4D Skyray, and F-4 Phantom, eventually becoming VMFA-314 "Black Knights" — the first Marine squadron to fly the F/A-18 Hornet and now operating the F-35C Lightning II. This patch honors the original Bob's Cats era and one of the most storied lineages in Marine Corps aviation.
Perfect For: VMFA-314 Black Knights Marines and veterans, VMF-314 WWII-era collectors, F4U Corsair enthusiasts, Disney-designed insignia collectors, MCAS Cherry Point and Miramar alumni, and anyone who knows the Bob's Cats came first.
