Officially Licensed USMC MALS-14 Dragons Sticker — From Henderson Field to Cherry Point, the Original MALS of the Year

They were building FARPs in combat zones before most squadrons knew what a FARP was — and they brought home the first MALS of the Year trophy to prove it.

Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 (MALS-14) — the 'Dragons' — is one of the most storied aviation logistics units in the Marine Corps, with a combat lineage stretching back to World War II. Originally activated on March 1, 1942, as Headquarters and Service Squadron 14 at Camp Kearny, California, the unit shipped out for the Pacific just months later, arriving at Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in time for the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942. After six months of fighting the Japanese, the squadron moved through Auckland, New Georgia, Bougainville, Green Island, and the Philippines before returning stateside in 1946. The unit participated in Korean War operations, relocated to Cherry Point, North Carolina, and was redesignated MALS-14 on September 30, 1988. The Dragons served as the test bed for the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System (NALCOMIS), pioneering the automated logistics tracking that would transform Marine aviation maintenance. When Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, MALS-14 coordinated the consolidation of 2nd MAW's aviation logistical resources and deployed MALS-14 Forward as the first fully functional MALS in the theater of operations. Moored at Bahrain, they supported the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and I MEF before transferring to support MAG-13 at King Abdul Aziz Naval Base. MALS-14's support gave MAG-13 the highest aircraft readiness rates of any Marine unit in Southwest Asia throughout Desert Storm. In February 1991, the Dragons established the first Fixed Wing Forward Armament and Refueling Point in a combat zone at Tanagib, Saudi Arabia. Upon return to Cherry Point, MALS-14 was selected as the inaugural winner of the Marine Corps Aviation Association's 'MALS of the Year' Award and received the Navy Unit Commendation. The squadron went on to support EA-6B Prowler operations during Deny Flight, Decisive Edge, Northern Watch, and the Kosovo Campaign. This sticker carries the fire of every Dragon who kept fixed-wing Marine aviation in the fight.
