Officially Licensed USMC MALS-11 Devilfish Sticker — The Oldest Aviation Logistics Squadron in the Marine Corps

Over a century of keeping Marine aircraft armed, maintained, and mission-ready — from the biplanes at Quantico to the F-35s at Miramar.

Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 (MALS-11) — the 'Devilfish' — holds the distinction of being the oldest aviation logistics squadron in the entire United States Marine Corps, tracing its lineage all the way back to December 1921 when it was activated as Flight 1, 2nd Air Squadron, at Marine Flying Field, Quantico, Virginia. Redesignated nine times over the following decades, the unit was assigned to the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and redesignated Headquarters and Service Squadron 11 by September 1941 — just months before America entered World War II. During the war, the squadron participated in campaigns across the Solomon Islands, New Britain, Peleliu, the Central Pacific, and the Philippines. In July 1965, as H&MS-11, the squadron deployed to Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam, where it supported the first attacks by Marine aircraft against Viet Cong forces and maintained an astonishing twelve different aircraft types — including providing support to Task Force 77 aircraft operating off Yankee Station. Redesignated MALS-11 on October 5, 1988, the Devilfish deployed to Southwest Asia in August 1990 for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, earning the Secretary of Defense Award for Maintenance Excellence in 1991–1992. The squadron deployed again to Kuwait in 2002–2003 for Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. Among the most decorated MALS in the Marine Corps, MALS-11 received the Marion Carl Award for Squadron of the Year in 2003 and the Colonel Donald E. Davis Award for Best Aviation Logistics Squadron of the Year in 2004, 2007, and 2009. Today, the Devilfish continue to serve at MCAS Miramar under MAG-11 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, now supporting F/A-18 Hornet and F-35C Lightning II squadrons. This sticker honors a century of Devilfish who have kept the Corps' jets flying.
