Officially Licensed USMC HMLA-269 Gunrunners Squadron Patch — The Phoenix Squadron
Deactivated in 2022. Reactivated in 2024. You can't keep the Gunrunners down.
HMLA-269 "The Gunrunners" is a Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron flying the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom out of MCAS New River, North Carolina, under MAG-29 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Originally commissioned as HMA-269 in 1971 — the Marine Corps' first dedicated attack helicopter squadron — the Gunrunners built a legacy spanning Vietnam, Desert Storm, OEF, and six deployments to Iraq during OIF. In 1995, two Gunrunner Cobras escorted the CH-53Es that rescued downed Air Force Captain Scott O'Grady in Bosnia. Recognized eight times as the Marine Corps' Light Attack Helicopter Squadron of the Year, HMLA-269 was briefly deactivated in December 2022 under Force Design 2030, only to be reactivated on July 1, 2024, when the Corps realized they still needed them. This officially licensed squadron patch carries the weight of over 50 years of attack helicopter excellence.
Perfect For: HMLA-269 Gunrunners Marines and veterans, AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom community, MCAS New River squadrons, MAG-29 and 2nd MAW personnel, attack helicopter pilots, and anyone who remembers the Gunrunners never really left.
