HMM-764, the Moonlighters, is a legendary Marine Reserve medium helicopter squadron activated in 1958 that flew the CH-46E Sea Knight for decades before becoming the first Marine Corps Reserve squadron to transition to the MV-22B Osprey in January 2013. Now operating as VMM-764 out of MCAS Miramar, the Moonlighters have deployed to Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom at Al Asad Air Base, and humanitarian missions aboard the USS Boxer. They even flew CH-46s into the Grand Canyon to deliver Toys for Tots to the remote Havasupai tribe. This leather patch honors the Phrog-era Moonlighters — weekend warriors who proved every deployment that "reserve" doesn't mean "second string."
