Officially Licensed USMC HMM-262 Smokin' Tiger PVC Patch — The Pacific's First Permanently Assigned Medium Helicopter Squadron
The Flying Tigers of HMM-262 wrote the book on helicopter warfare in the Pacific.
Activated in September 1951 at Cherry Point, NC, HMM-262 deployed to Vietnam in December 1966 and immediately set records — flying over 2,198 hours in a single month, the all-time high for CH-46 squadrons in combat. The Flying Tigers supported the Battle of Khe Sanh, operated from Marble Mountain and Quang Tri, and pioneered composite squadron operations in the Western Pacific. In 1992, they became the first permanently assigned Marine medium helicopter squadron in the Pacific, operating CH-46E Sea Knights from MCAS Futenma, Okinawa. From Hurricane Iniki relief to Typhoon Haiyan disaster operations to combat in Iraq, the Tigers have done it all in the Phrog. This PVC patch celebrates the iconic CH-46 era of a squadron that's been first at everything.
Perfect For: HMM-262 and VMM-262 Marines, CH-46 Phrog lovers, Okinawa-based aviation veterans, and anyone who remembers the sound of a Sea Knight coming to save the day.
The Phrogs may be gone, but the Tigers are forever.
