Official Legacy 3rd MAW Patch - 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3rd MAW) Aviation Combat Element Embroidered Patch, MCAS Miramar Heritage Edition.
Bella Ac Pace Paratus — Ready in War and Peace — the motto of the Marine Corps' premier west coast aviation wing, stitched into every mission since 1942.
The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing was commissioned on 10 November 1942 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, beginning with just 13 officers, 25 enlisted Marines, and a single trainer aircraft. From those modest origins, the wing grew into the largest aviation combat element on the west coast, headquartered today at MCAS Miramar in San Diego, California, where it serves as the aviation arm of I Marine Expeditionary Force. Its combat record spans World War II Pacific campaigns, the Korean War, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm — where the wing flew over 18,000 sorties from six airfields across the theater — and sustained deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, including the 3rd MAW Forward headquarters at Camp Leatherneck. The wing's mission has always been to provide combat-ready expeditionary aviation forces capable of short-notice worldwide deployment, fielding fighter attack, tiltrotor, heavy-lift helicopter, and refueler transport squadrons across multiple California and Arizona air stations. This embroidered patch captures that layered legacy in a format built for shadow boxes, display boards, flight bags, and unit-history collections that deserve more than generic aviation memorabilia.
Perfect For: 3rd MAW veterans and active-duty Marines, MCAS Miramar alumni, I MEF aviation supporters, Marine Aircraft Group collectors, fighter attack and helicopter aircrew, Desert Storm and OIF or OEF deployment commemorations, family keepsakes, reunion gifts, shadow box builds, and serious patch collectors tracking the full lineage of west coast Marine Corps aviation from World War II through the modern expeditionary era.
Eight decades of west coast Marine aviation heritage, preserved in thread and worn with pride.
