In Pursuit of Peace — USS Decatur DDG-73, Arleigh Burke Flight II destroyer.
USS Decatur (DDG-73) is an Arleigh Burke-class (Flight II) Aegis guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy and the 22nd destroyer of her class — named in honor of Commodore Stephen Decatur, the legendary early-19th-century naval officer most famous for his 1804 raid to burn the captured frigate Philadelphia in Tripoli Harbor. Construction began on January 11, 1996 at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine; the ship was launched on November 10, 1996; and she was commissioned on August 29, 1998 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon. Decatur is currently part of Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific and operates from her homeport on the West Coast under Commander, US Pacific Fleet. As a Flight II Aegis destroyer she displaces approximately 8,300 tons, measures 505 feet in length, exceeds 30 knots flank, and integrates the SPY-1D radar, AN/SQQ-89 anti-submarine warfare suite, Mk 41 Vertical Launching System for Standard Missile and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, the Mk 45 5"/54 caliber gun, MH-60R LAMPS-capable flight deck and hangar, and a full passive and active defensive suite. Across more than two decades of service Decatur has deployed across the Pacific including a 2001–02 Western Pacific (WestPac) cruise and continued routine forward presence and theater security cooperation across US Pacific Fleet's area of responsibility, carrying her motto "In Pursuit of Peace."
