Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are the workhorses of the surface fleet, providing air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and Tomahawk cruise missile strike capabilities. DDG-107 is named after Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely Jr., the first African American to command a U.S. Navy warship.
