Official USS America LHA-6 Patch — America-Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS America (LHA-6) Embroidered Patch
Don't tread on me — USS America LHA-6, the Navy's amphibious flagship in the Indo-Pacific.
USS America (LHA-6) is the lead ship of her class of amphibious assault ships and the fourth US warship to bear the name America. She was laid down at Huntington Ingalls Industries' Pascagoula yard on July 17, 2009, launched on June 4, 2012, delivered in spring 2014, and commissioned on October 11, 2014 at NAS North Island, San Diego — replacing USS Peleliu (LHA-5) of the Tarawa class as the lead amphibious assault ship of her generation. Optimized as an aviation platform and built around the F-35B Lightning II and the MV-22B Osprey, USS America forgoes the traditional well deck of earlier LHAs in favor of an enlarged hangar bay, a third aircraft elevator, and expanded aviation maintenance and ordnance capabilities — making her the first USN amphibious ship purpose-built to operate the fifth-generation Marine F-35B as the centerpiece of an Aviation Combat Element. From 2019 to 2025 USS America was forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan as the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious assault ship in the US 7th Fleet area of operations, serving as flagship for Expeditionary Strike Group 7 and the America Amphibious Ready Group across exercises Talisman Sabre, Iron Fist, Ssang Yong, Noble Fusion, and Valiant Shield, sustaining persistent presence in the South China Sea, and providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the Indo-Pacific. She returned to her new homeport at Naval Base San Diego on September 25, 2025 after six years of forward-deployed operations. This patch carries the ship's crest and the legacy of the lead America-class amphibious assault ship.
Perfect For: USS America LHA-6 sailors and chiefs, embarked Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Marines, Expeditionary Strike Group 7 staff, F-35B Lightning II and MV-22B Osprey pilots and maintainers, Sasebo Japan and San Diego homeport residents, plankowners and prior-cruise USS America veterans, and amphibious warfare community supporters.
