Official VAW-124 Bear Aces 4th of July Patches — Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 124 Embroidered Patches
The Bear Aces celebrate Independence Day—VAW-124, the eyes of the carrier strike group, flying the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye from USS Gerald R. Ford.
Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 124 (VAW-124), the "Bear Aces," is a United States Navy carrier-based airborne early warning squadron assigned to Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8) and embarked aboard USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78)—the Navy's newest and most advanced nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the lead ship of the Ford class. VAW-124 operates the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, the world's most capable airborne early warning and battle management aircraft.
VAW-124 was established on 1 September 1967 and has deployed aboard numerous aircraft carriers throughout its distinguished history, providing the critical airborne command and control capability that extends the carrier strike group's sensor and communication reach hundreds of miles beyond the horizon. The Bear Aces' E-2D Advanced Hawkeye features the AN/APY-9 radar system—a two-generation leap over the E-2C's radar—housed in the aircraft's distinctive 24-foot rotodome, providing 360-degree surveillance, theater air and missile defense coordination, and networked battle management that integrates the entire carrier strike group's combat power.
This 4th of July commemorative patch celebrates VAW-124's patriotic spirit and the squadron's critical role in defending American sovereignty and projecting power from the flight deck of USS Gerald R. Ford. As part of CVW-8, the Bear Aces operate alongside strike fighter, electronic attack, maritime helicopter, and logistics squadrons, providing the aerial surveillance and command and control that makes the carrier strike group the most powerful naval formation ever assembled.
Perfect For: VAW-124 Bear Aces members and veterans, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye community members, CVW-8 personnel, USS Gerald R. Ford crew members, NAS Norfolk aviators, and patriotic naval aviation patch collectors.
The Bear Aces of VAW-124—the eyes of the Ford strike group, watching over America's freedom from above the waves on Independence Day and every day.
