MALS-26 Patriots 4th of July PVC Glow Patch

Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 (MALS-26), 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing

Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 (MALS-26), the "Patriots," traces its distinguished lineage to 16 June 1952, when Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron MAG-26 (HEDRON MAG-26) was activated at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. Redesignated as Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 26 (H&MS-26) on 15 February 1954, the squadron relocated to MCAS New River and was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing in July 1954, beginning decades of critical aviation logistics support.

H&MS-26 supported operations throughout the world during the Cold War, including the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, Operations Nimbus Star, Moon, and Steam I near Cyprus in 1974, the evacuation of American citizens from Beirut, Lebanon in 1982, Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983, and Operation Praying Mantis in 1988. In October 1988, H&MS-26 was redesignated as Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26, consolidating all responsibilities for aviation logistical support in one squadron. That same year, a MALS-26 detachment deployed with HMM-261 aboard USS Saipan and was awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award for meritorious achievement in the Persian Gulf during the destruction of the Sirri and Sassan oil platforms.

MALS-26 provided aviation supply, intermediate maintenance, and engine repair for eleven MAG-29 and MAG-26 squadrons during and after Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991, and participated in Operation Provide Comfort in Turkey and Iraq, Operation Sharp Edge in Liberia, and Operation Provide Promise in the former Yugoslavia. The Patriots were recognized as 2nd MAW MALS of the Year in 1992, 1993, 1997, and 1998, and received the Commanding General's Aviation Support Efficiency Trophy in 1992 and 1993.

Perfect For: MALS-26 Patriots members and veterans, MAG-26 personnel, 2nd MAW aviation logistics professionals, MCAS New River Marines, and supporters of the maintenance and supply professionals who keep Marine aircraft flying.

The unsung heroes of Marine aviation—the Patriots of MALS-26, keeping the rotors turning and the mission on track since 1952.
